The most badass thing you'll ever see. I will have to re-create that in a non-image manner and leave it in my room.

Sweet

Monday, my grandparents did some sanding in the hallway across from my room, so I came home to a nice layer of dust on everything. Earlier, I shut down the server and my desktop and cleaned the vile dust from them. I also finally got around to making sure the fans in my desktop were blowing as I wanted them (in through the front and out through the back). Now that they're all properly situated, my processor is idling at around 20-22C (~68-72F) (with it running at 3.16GHz instead of the stock 2.8GHz). My video card is idling at around 40C (104F) now with the stock cooling and a slight overclocking from the stock speeds (which are themselves slightly overclocked from Nvidia's standard), though I may look into replacing the cooling on it just to squeeze an extra bit of heat off it when under load.

[info]necrojustice had asked several times about how well my video card fit into my case, so I snapped a quick shot of it to just show him.

AethWolf: It's almost launch time.
necrojustice: yes
necrojustice: 1 minute for you
necrojustice: 1:01 FOR ME
AethWolf: Midnight
necrojustice: thought I won't be buying it yet
AethWolf: Can you feel it?
AethWolf: Do you feel the copies flying off the shelves in the eastern time zone?
necrojustice: yes
necrojustice: Freddie Mercury's ghost will no doubt grab an etheral copy
AethWolf: If they could, those gamers would be licking up your tears as you cry at your extra hour of wait.
necrojustice: should I go into gamestop and demand an older call of duty?
AethWolf: Call of Honor Modern Allied Duty 3?
AethWolf: For your Wiibox 360?
AethWolf: Wiistation 360?

Google Wave

[info]aethwolf
I finally got one. aeth.wolf@googlewave.com As far as I can tell, it would have kicked ass to have had during my software engineering classes. Everyone using it to stay in contact and synced would have been killer.

I also have 3 Google Voice invites if anyone still needs one.

DIY Props?
Aeth by Peaches 2
[info]aethwolf
In a moment of curiousity, I looked up instructions on building your own lightsaber prop. I may end up attempting to build one, even if I don't ever end up cosplaying with it.

Given my recent interest in Doctor Who and a desire for a sonic screwdriver, I may attempt a DIY sonic screwdriver first. I think I have most of the plans figured out in my head. I just need to sketch out the plans and then buy the parts. Failing that, I'm just gonna order the cool UV sonic screwdriver that comes with psychic paper.

It'd be cool to mod my RotJ blaster to include a laser pointer that goes off when you pull the trigger, but I really don't want to damage the toy. It's the only toy gun I've ever had that actually had some decent weight on it and was fun to just hold.

Come to think of it, the Pyro's flamethrower in TF2 shouldn't be that hard a build. That'd be a fun one to pull on the spies that have been infiltrating cons.

Delay pedal reccomendations, anyone?
Aeth by Kappy
[info]aethwolf
I want a delay pedal for my guitar. I like the delay in my Digitech pedal, but that pedal doesn't play well with my amp and isn't battery powered. The delay effect in my amp gets the job done, too, but I can't just click it on and off like I could with a pedal (I have to stop playing and hit the bypass button on the amp).

Requirements:
As cheap as possible
Barebones, I don't like a lot of fluff to fiddle about with
Small form factor would be nice. I'd like to haul it around with me to cons.
Being able to tap it to set the delay time would be nice, too

Laptop Issues
Aeth Greaser by Moose
[info]aethwolf
Yesterday, my laptop began having an odd issue during startup. It now sometimes hangs when the BIOS loads. Once it decides to stop doing that, it'll hang at the bootloader stage. Eventually, it'll start booting properly, but I really don't want to spend 15 minutes fiddling with it to get it to boot.

I've already upgraded the BIOS, which didn't help the issue. Could it just be a messed up bootsector causing the issue, or is it more likely just a failing hard drive?

Nice

So I was browsing eBay when I came across a curiousity. Vox AC1 mini amp. It's a little 1 watt battery powered practice amp. From the reviews I've seen, it's actually pretty good when put up against other similar amps. If I win the auction, I think the amp will have a date with some velcro so I can modify it to carry around on my belt. I'll be able to do the wandering minstrel thing at cons without having to sacrifice the sweet Vox tone I <3 so much.

How difficult would this be to build?

Also, as a general comment, I'm starting to want one of those kigurumi things.

Windows 7 Professional (Initial Look)
Me
[info]aethwolf
So far, Windows 7 has managed to beat the release candidate for it. My screen looks sharper (or my eyes have adjusted to the slight fuzziness), and my Windows Experience Index thingy went up from a 5.0 to a 5.9. I think I can bump that up a little bit by re-running the assessment when I'm not also re-downloading Steam games, as the HDD speed was holding it back this time instead of the graphics card like in the release candidate. So far, all of my hardware just worked right out of the box, well basic functionality has, anyway. I still had to download the Nvidia drivers for my mobo and video card to get full functionality out of those, but at least it didn't feel like back in the Win9x days when you'd get a 256 color display at 640x480 with the generic video card drivers right after an install.

I picked up mine via the student sale for $30 for the upgrade version to 64 bit Pro. Curiously, the key didn't function like an upgrade key. I installed it from a full-version disc sourced from MSDN (What? The $30 upgrade was digitally distributed without a disc. I'm not about to go without a CD/DVD for my OS). I put in the key, and it didn't even prompt me to prove I have a legit copy of a previous version of Windows.

[info]necrojustice may have found some super cheap Win7 Pro keys, but I'm waiting for him to test the one he bought for legitimacy before I get in on it. It'll be upgrades all around if the keys are legit.

(Yes, yes, shitty shot, but I didn't feel like taking the time to set it up properly, not to mention that ancient Land Speeder isn't in the best shape.)
